few weeks ago my dear thinkpad r61, that i bought in january (?) 2008, that served me so well for so many years, that was loyally with me through many long sleepless hopeless nights working on school things, that stayed up many more night rendering, calculating, downloading things, always doing it's best to fulfill given tasks, no matter how trivial and pointless, no matter how hard , that one that spent many hours with me in trains, that one stopped working.
just like that. one day it beeped few times and didn't boot and i stared at black screen and didn't believe that it could happen. it had the defected nvidia gpu and it was only a matter of time for something like this to happen.
this week also my wacom graphire tablet, that i bought in summer 2006, stopped working. The problem is in the usb wire, it has defect on several places, i am thinking of replacing it with new one, but maybe it's not worth it, because there other prpoblems that make using the tablet annoying. on the other hand, i would like just throwing away an almost working device.
this friday my "new " laptop arrived.
it was very hard to choose new one, partly because i didn't want any new laptop. i was happy with my old one, watch my frinds buying new laptops and i found mine better in many ways, the materials, positions of ports, keyboard, but mainly colors and aspect ratio of monitor (not the performance of course, but i still found performance of my old laptop quite good, certainly good enough for me, since i hav powerfull desktop to play games and render fractals). and they kept talking about what's wrong with their new machines, what's not done properly, what is half-baked, what annoys them ... and i thought how lucky i am for having my laptop and that i am not going to buy new one in next few years.
and now, when i had to, i went through each and every company, all of their models, new and old and finally i settled with thinkpad T500 (which is at the first sight just like r61

) , it's display has beautifull colors, especially black is really pitch black and i am delighted when i look at it. there are some things that annoy me or look like they would annoy me in the future, but i'll see how (quickly) i'll get used to it, the change is not that big.
by the way, my first laptop was compaq evo (i don't know which one precisely, but looked like this
[link] ) and it was the greatest computer i have ever used. i am such lucky person to have so amazing computers in my life, i should use them to make something amazing.

what about you and computers, do you like your current one or are you looking foward to buy something better? what laptop would you buy?
